This is why your car needs oil: Camshaft Problems.
Mechanics and our fathers have been telling us for years about the importance of changing the oil in our car. We know that cars need oil to make things lubricated and work properly so that we don’t get stranded on the side of the road.
Sometimes we will wait a while after or completely forget about getting an oil change during our scheduled timeframe. The oil light continues to light up our dashboard and we keep blowing it off. You may not see problems right away with the first couple missed oil changes. However, your engine will start to wear down faster the longer you keep old oil in your car.
Oil (including synthetic oil) breaks down and gathers dirt from road everyday. This causes your oil to become less of a lubrication and more of an exfoliate. You can see from the camshaft below that a lack of clean oil started stripping away the metal on both the camshaft and cylinder head.
Once you have reached this point, these parts will need to be replaced which means much more money than just getting the oil changed.
